We take care of all this. Just ensure we can access your site and we will do the rest. When you’re ready, please call us on Tavistock 01822 860298.

Vehicle, skip and time permitting we sometimes offer a wait and load service. This service must be pre-booked and the site must be capable of supporting this activity. We have a bobcat that we operate for rapid removal and loading.

Can I put a skip on the road or public highway?

No, we won’t leave a skip on a public highway but you can site it in your driveway or site ground.

All skips must be sited on private ground or within the curtilage of a property as to avoid disruption to neighbours or the highway. The ground must be suitable for the skip and it’s loaded weight. We are happy to advise you.

Can you deliver a skip over a hedge or a wall?

Yes we can but the driver may need to carry out a quick check to ensure it safe to do this. All sites are different and we don’t want to damage anything during the process. We also have an obligation to keep the public highway safe during delivery.

Do you supply covers for your skips?

No, we don’t provide covers but we do offer covered or enclosed skips. Please see the Covered & Ro-Ro Skip section on our skip hire page which you may view by clicking here.

If you wish to cover a standard skip then low cost tarpaulins may be purchased from most builders merchants.

What can I put in my skip?

The law is specific about what can and can’t be placed in a skip. As a general rule things like asbestos require controlled disposal and are therefore a specialist activity – we can advise you if you wish to contact us. Please see the next FAQ on hazardous waste to find out what shouldn’t be put in our skips.

General mixed waste are things that come from a building, garden, house, factory or office.

Generally, please not place anything into our skips that could cause harm to humans, animals, fish or that could potentially cause environmental pollution to land, water or air.

TV’s, fridges, computers, cookers, mattresses etc. require carefully controlled disposal or recycling. You can find an example list and prices here.

If you are unclear about what type of waste you have then just get in touch – we are here to help.

What is hazardous waste?

Things like animal carcasses, asbestos, full or part full tins of paint, flammable liquids, batteries, gas bottles, tyres, polluting materials or anything you think just doesn’t “feel right” to put in a skip. It’s best to check with us first to avoid excessive waste charges but this list gives an idea of what not to put in our skips.

What about plasterboard, can I put it in a skip?

Plasterboard is a controlled waste product and cannot be taken to landfill. We have to carefully dispose of it. As a general rule, you should place plasterboard at the top of your skip so it can be carefully sorted. If it is “buried” or “hidden” in the skip then there may be a surcharge related to its disposal.

If you want to dispose of large amounts of plasterboard then it wise to contact us. We can offer a competitive price.

  • No skips will be placed on the public highway. All skips must be sited on private ground or within the cartilage of a property as to avoid disruption to neighbours or the highway. The ground must be suitable for the skip and it’s loaded weight.

WEIGHBRIDGE

How do I use the weighbridge?

We have a dedicated page for the weighbridges – please click here for more information.

RECYCLING

Do you recycle everything?

We do recycle most things like white goods, wood and anything that has a future use.

For example, we recycle rubble and crush it so it can be used for track and agricultural road building. Plasterboard is sorted and inspected, taken to a plasterboard recycling centre which is then often turned back into plasterboard.

Paper and cardboard take a similar route to plasterboard. Wood is sent for shredding to be made into biomass pellets or future timber applications.

Not all products can be recycled because they are deemed to uneconomical or hazardous. We assess waste during our recycling process where everything is sorted, graded and processed.
